It never fails to amaze me that I can spend 2 hours at a DMV/MVA/what you will for a new license that only takes 2 minutes to make.   At least the MVA that I went to today wasn't as much like Mos Eisley as the other MVA in Maryland.  While this place wasn't a "hive of scum and villainy", I was thankful for my iPod and my book on Baudelaire by Sartre to help me drown out the squeals of hyper kids and the stank of unwashed bodies.  While I did get my license transferred over from VA (I'm mourning the loss of my lovely VA license; I'll never have a better picture!), I've got to go back after my lienholder sends my title to the MVA.  Only then can I get my new title, registration, and tags.

*sigh* I have no idea why these places can't make it easier, but I suppose they are trying to improve things with all the e-services they're starting to offer.  On the bright side, the employees there were a ton nicer and more competent than I've dealt with in the past.  Couple that with the fact that its 15 minutes away from home and they've got a repeat client.

Lameness #1: I just saw the commercial for "Invasion".  Yet another cheap knock-off of an excellent 70's horror flick.  Seriously, no one can beat Donald Sutherland, Karen Allen, and my beloved Leonard Nimoy in that flick.  Lame.

Lameness #2: Any commercial for Restless Legs Syndrome.  Seriously, I just saw them list "Creepy crawlies", "pins and needles" and "urge to move" as legit symptoms and now they're hocking drugs for it.  Unbelievable.  I firmly agree with Alan Shore's diatribe about America's tendency to "sell sickness".  Keep an eye out for a commercial for Mirapex and you'll know what I mean.  Apparently you're supposed to notify the doctor if you feel "an intense urge to gamble, or other sexual urges".  Fantastic! A drug that makes me want to have sex and gamble! Word up!

All lameness aside, I feel the surge in my blood that tells me autumn is coming.  I drive past my high school and I see the cheerleaders and football players gearing for the new season, the days are getting shorter, and the leaves are starting to turn and fall.  I love fall.  It would take pages and pages of posts for me to list all the reasons why I love fall, but its safe to say that I never feel more alive than in fall.  My wardrobe is also far superior for fall. ;^)  Maybe its the cool weather.  Maybe its the years and years of beautiful memories of the start of school ingrained into my mind.  Its ironic that a season that is usually characterized as the harbinger of winter, a season of decay, a descent into cold weather and darker days can be the herald of so many beginnings.

I love autumn.  I can feel it coming too. Des violons de l'automne.

Snape loves autumn too! =^)

I promised pictures from my new digital camera, so here they are!

Swish and flick, baby. Swish and flick!

I also think that [ profile] spikesbint, [ profile] hhhbkev, [ profile] savemoony, and [ profile] jadesblood will be highly amused by this.

  1. I'm entirely too amused by the Harry Potter Spellcasting application on facebook.  I've already tripped someone, used Levicorpus, and made someone burp slugs.  *evil chuckle* Wait...does that make me James Potter?!
  2. Spent some money at Borders today.  Purchases include the TMNT CGI movie (WOOT!), Gryffindor and Slytherin magnets (I know I'm a dork.  Hush.), and the Border's exclusive Snape figure (yes, pathetic, obsessive fangirl right here *points to self*).  I love retail therapy.  Borders was also having a book drive so I also bought HP7 for them to give to someone in need.  Made me feel really good.  I have an extra copy of HP7 at home that I may also donate tomorrow.
  3. I also purchased Snapes wand from the Noble Collection, one of my favorite collectors sites.  Pics forthcoming.
  4. Speaking of Snape, I LOVE my new journal layout.  I had been in the market, as it were, for a new layout and this one suits me to a T.  *sighs as she looks at her refurbished journal*
  5. I was gratified to see a very well-written letter that will be "signed" and sent to LJ regarding the recent baninations etc.  It was more of an appeal for communication rather than a flame war seeking retribution for bannings or even debating the nature of the art in question.  If anything will get their attention, I think this might.  I'll post it once it gets edited.
  6. A meme!!  Taken from [profile] faerie_lissa416

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know?

How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking an LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

Well, here's your chance.

If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before. Even if there are things you don't think you've missed, but you're just curious about, go ahead and ask. I'll answer any question...or questions, if you're curious about more than one thing or are new to my flist.

Which Mix of the Hogwarts Houses are You?

You're a Slytherclaw!: By nature you are rational and a realist. Some people may call you cynical and elitist but this doesn't matter to you. You don't depend on other people's opinions to determine how you live your life. You are generally cautious and prefer to weigh the consequences before you act. In conflicts you prefer to remain neutral and aloof. You value intelligence and you are a natural diplomat, you can convince people to do what you want them to do. Your weakness is that you sometimes think more with your head than with your heart and it leads to isolation. With the intelligence of a Ravenclaw and the subtlety of a Slytherin you will be sure to achieve all your goals!

The intelligence of a Ravenclaw and the subtlety of a Slytherin. BOO-Yeah.

...go here.  NOW!

If possible, it makes it even more heart-wrenching.  Is it wrong of me to want to see an entire animated movie in this style about these two?

Hallo, my dear ones!

Now that Harry Potter 7 has been read, I feel safe coming back to the internets.  It looks like my instincts to not belong to or visit any HP communities on LJ was a smart one; upon later perusal, I kept finding entries in big bold flashing text that warned of trolls coming on and spoiling things for anyone who happened to have said communities on their flist.  After all my years on this great Intarweb of ours, and I'm still amazed at the levels of douchebaggery to which people will stoop.  At any rate, I found be one of the greatest works of art of our time.  A true masterpiece perfectly weaving plot and emotion, with Rowling conducting both elements as if it were the greatest orchestra on the face of the earth.  I've been interested to check out various reviews on my flist and have enjoyed seeing the quibbles that people have, most of which center on the somewhat-throw away nature of the Epilogue.  Perhaps I am not the most acerbic critic in the world, but it is truly difficult for me to find fault with this book.  I'll probably collect my thoughts sometime this week or weekend and throw them down in here somewhere, but right now, I think I'll just bask in the glory for a while.

In other news, work has been insane.  I haven't really had the time to come on here and play because the pace of my workplace in summer could rival that of NASCAR.  It usually leaves me worn out and exhausted by the time I come home, so I've mostly been resting and keeping fairly unplugged.  I think I'm sufficiently recharged though...

I've also had to take a break from wrestling for a bit.  I suppose I thought I was over all the stuff that happened with Benoit...but...its been harder for me to come back than I thought I would.  Perhaps I feel now that my trust is truly shaken, and its hard for me to enjoy it knowing what I know.  Perhaps its just the fact that the writing/booking for all wrestling across the board seems limp and uninspired.  I still love it, though, and will probably be back to watching regularly around Summerslam for a certain someone's return.

I'm sure I'll have more to say later.  Until then, its time to listen to Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter!
phoenixastraea: (Eat Sai!)

Ok all, today starts my self-inflicted exile from the internet and all news media.  A friend of mine was inadvertently spoiled when he read what appear to be the scans of either the last chapter or the epilogue to Potter 7.  I love HP but am glad that I do not belong to any of the Potter communities on LJ and have avoided MuggleNet for the past several months.

I will also be travelling on the weekend of the release date, meaning the earliest I will be able to pick up Potter 7 is Sunday afternoon/evening (which reminds me, I need to call Walden Books and see if they have extended hours for the release weekend).   Many of my other close friends are in the same boat due to travelling to Canada for a bachelor party, so I don't feel so alone in this.

I've also been AWOL because of my yearly need to unplug from the internet when I get home.  I love and miss you all but after 8 hours on the compy at work, I think my left wrist is starting to develop mild carpal tunnel.  Yesterday after work imploded (more on that later if I can stomach to write about it), I came home and literally spent the rest of hte night massaging my wrist before it started seizing. *sigh*  Not cool for someone as plugged in as I am.  But anyway, I love and miss you all and will be back on more regularly after I blaze my way through Potter 7.

Anything else going on with you all?
