I thought comparing it to the Dark Side was rather appropriate culturally, considering that both are cinematic epics that debate the nature of good and evil and both of which portray the good side as being near the brink of extinction. Evil was symbolised more ephemerally through the Dark Side, but both served as the crux of the conflict.
Well, technically I think anyone could snatch up the Dark Side as well...It surely didn't take Luke too much effort to switch over briefly...just one nice veiled threat by Daddy and a lot of pent up anger and confusion nearly did the trick.
