LOOK at the new Enterprise from the upcoming Star Trek XI:

I think I'm getting a lil choked up.  That's just BEAUTIFUL.

Between the remastered TOS, the DS9 novel relauch, and the upcoming movie, its never been a better time to be a Trek fan.

Have to disagree

I'd say the best time to be a trek fan would be circa 1992. TNG was going strong, Star Trek 6 had just come out and restarted an ailing franchise after the trainwreck of "The Final Frontier", and DS9 was on the launching pad.

As it is today, Star Trek has been driven off the small screen by a rather lackluster "Enterprise," the cinema world still can't get the aftertaste of "Nemesis" out of its mouth, and I fear, after much of what I have read, the new movie will be more like ST: 90210 than Wrath of Khan. Thus I'm not holding my breath with expectation.

You are right, however, that the remastered OS is quite stunning.

Well, yes, but considering that they're trying to reinervate it, there is great potential here. The DS9 novels are really awesome; it feels like revisiting old friends. And perhaps its just the optimist in me, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the movie. The whole point of this is to show the legends BEFORE they were legends. yes, that means they're younger, and of course, it means that they wont be the badasses they came to be in TOS or even the movies. It's all about growth, and I'm looking forward to the exploration of that growth.

But yes, Nemesis was an abomination; whoever greenlit that should have been shot.
