I...I can't believe it.

He's...he's a fencer.
I can't believe it. He's a fencer. He fences f*cking epee.
I just found out from an entry
nowitzki_daily that not only does he play tennis, golf, and saxophone, he also fences. With thanks to
robtengel, I got to see him in all of his knicker-y glory. I should have known what weapon; epeeists are known for being ridiculously tall and slimmer than other fencers (speaking as the stocky, barbaric sabrist that I am! ;^).
I didn't think he could get any cooler. I didn't think I could like/worship/admire him any more than I already do. And then he shows up in fencing whites.
I think...I think I'm going to die now.

Date: 2006-06-21 04:25 pm (UTC)Hot damn! Whoo what a hottie! You're right, this is a gorgeous team this year. I love Arne Friedrich's permanent cowlick! =^D
For the longest time, my dream team was Klinsmann and Lothar Matthaus. MAN, I loved watching that team. I'm thrilled that you all are hosting this year! Are you near one of the many stadiums?

Date: 2006-06-21 04:33 pm (UTC)And Per is cute, right? But not only this, he's young but really intelligent and a fair player, even if he is a defense guy. He mostly didn't need a fould, gets seldom yellow cards. I like his calm, down-to-earth- way to be, he reminds me in many ways of Dirk, or let me say it better: He reminds me of thinks i truly love about Dirk.
No, i'm from east Germany, we only have one stadium near to us: Leipzig. It's about 100 km away. Berlin is 250 km away, you need about 3 hours to be there. But i have no tickets, it was almost impossible to get some.

*smiles* I have no idea why, but this just made me smile really big. I guess its because we see and admire qualities in other people that we know he possesses.
Wow, that is far away! When did tickets go on sale? Are most of the stadiums closer to west Germany?

Date: 2006-06-21 05:54 pm (UTC)That's the reason why i lost my heart to Dirk and not to Shaq or i don't know, Allen Iverson. I always loved the calm, the good and the nice boys. Because i think that are qualilties that least over sport, qualities i love about my friends, that are real. And i love to see this qualities also in Dirk. He's so special in that way. And in many others *gg*
So glad you see that, too!! *hugs*
See, that's the WM-stadiums. And my hometown is the blue point. I'm in the middle of nowhere. Really.
The tickets went on sale in January via internet, but there was no chance. We tried it seven times... :(

Date: 2006-06-21 06:16 pm (UTC)Wow, your hometown is right in the middle! I'm sorry it worked out like that for you all! Have you ever been to a live soccer game at any of those stadiums?
I really want to learn German. I wanted to learn German instead of French, but the year I was able to take a language, German wasn't being offered! I think I'm going to have to teach myself.

Date: 2006-06-21 06:51 pm (UTC)Yeah, my hometown Jena is in Thuringia, they call it the "green heart of Germany", because of all the wood here. It's a little "countrystyle", but like it pretty much!
Where are you from?
Not in those WM-stadiums, but i saw the Berlin stadium from the outside and was in Mönchengladbach a few years ago to watch a first german league soccer game against Nürnberg. That was a really impressive experience!
I wish i could help you with that. You can ask me whatever you want, maybe i can help you with some translation stuff. I'm sorry, that German wasn't offered in your school (?). Did many poeple learn it? I guess not, right?

Date: 2006-06-21 07:00 pm (UTC)Ooh, the "green heart of Germany"; that appeals to my poetic sensibility! It sounds beautiful! I'm from Ashton, a very small town in Maryland. Its very rural and green and I like it that way; my family still lives there. Right now, I'm living in Virginia, in a small town where I went to graduate school. I'm close enough to DC to enjoy the city every once in a while but far away to get away from it when I want to!
Unfortunately, the German teacher at the school I attended left the school, which only left the French and Spanish teachers. It was disappointing, to be sure. It probably depends on the school system, but I know friends who went to schools where they learned German, Latin, even Russian! Thanks for the offer with the help. We'll see how I do when I try to pick it up this summer! =^)

Date: 2006-06-22 09:20 pm (UTC)Dirk ist süß means Dirk is sweet or cute.

Thank you about the icon. It really fits in the moment!

Date: 2006-06-25 07:45 pm (UTC)Each day we should have a new word in german about what he is...A post of "Dirk is/ist..." and we get to complete the phrase!

Date: 2006-06-21 10:55 pm (UTC)Oh trust me; fencers have a high hotness quotient! Its really strange...but swords do add a hotness factor!
Woodwinds represent! Saxamaphones and Flutamatoots!

I am Queen of Rudeness!
Date: 2006-06-23 06:54 pm (UTC)I am so very sorry that I didn't let you know I wasn't going to make it yesterday. I kept trying to remind myself to call the number Kenny gave us over myspace to let you know, but I got caught up with my final exam for my week-intensive summer course. I really would've liked to come and see everyone, but I made my exam top priority. I hope you can forgive me for not letting you know. Usually I'm much better about that kind of thing.
