I...I can't believe it.

He's...he's a fencer.

I can't believe it.  He's a fencer.  He fences f*cking epee.

I just found out from an entry [profile] nowitzki_daily that not only does he play tennis, golf, and saxophone, he also fences.  With thanks to [profile] robtengel, I got to see him in all of his knicker-y glory. I should have known what weapon; epeeists are known for being ridiculously tall and slimmer than other fencers (speaking as the stocky, barbaric sabrist that I am! ;^).

I didn't think he could get any cooler.  I didn't think I could like/worship/admire him any more than I already do.  And then he shows up in fencing whites.

I think...I think I'm going to die now.

Yeah, cool, i'm adding you, too!
And hey, you like german soccer?

I *LOVE* german soccer. I have an autographed postcard of Jurgen Klinsmann displaying proudly on my bookcase! =^)

How amazing!! Jürgen is really cool, he gave a looser-team ( we lost against Portugals B-team 2 years ago!) a whole new spirit and now it's so much fun to watch the games. But not only this, since the young guys are in our team, we have the beautiest team ever *lol* I especially like Per Mertesacker, maybe because he's almost as tall as Dirk and also blond *ggg*

*goes hunting for Mertesacker's photo*

Hot damn! Whoo what a hottie! You're right, this is a gorgeous team this year. I love Arne Friedrich's permanent cowlick! =^D

For the longest time, my dream team was Klinsmann and Lothar Matthaus. MAN, I loved watching that team. I'm thrilled that you all are hosting this year! Are you near one of the many stadiums?

Arne Friedrich? Are you kidding me? I so love this guy, he's really sweet!!
And Per is cute, right? But not only this, he's young but really intelligent and a fair player, even if he is a defense guy. He mostly didn't need a fould, gets seldom yellow cards. I like his calm, down-to-earth- way to be, he reminds me in many ways of Dirk, or let me say it better: He reminds me of thinks i truly love about Dirk.

No, i'm from east Germany, we only have one stadium near to us: Leipzig. It's about 100 km away. Berlin is 250 km away, you need about 3 hours to be there. But i have no tickets, it was almost impossible to get some.

Wow, its so great to find out that he's a great person as well as a talented athlete. Being aggressive is good in the sport, but being calm, fair, and reasonable is equally important.

I like his calm, down-to-earth-way to be, he reminds me in many ways of Dirk, or let me say it better: He reminds me of things I truly love about Dirk.

*smiles* I have no idea why, but this just made me smile really big. I guess its because we see and admire qualities in other people that we know he possesses.

Wow, that is far away! When did tickets go on sale? Are most of the stadiums closer to west Germany?

Date: 2006-06-21 05:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] robtengel.livejournal.com
Yeah, that's exactly how i think about sportsmen. Sure, you need to be "selfish" and agressive sometimes, but the athlets i love most are the guys who still are humans and not only their own Nike-commercial, if you know what i mean...
That's the reason why i lost my heart to Dirk and not to Shaq or i don't know, Allen Iverson. I always loved the calm, the good and the nice boys. Because i think that are qualilties that least over sport, qualities i love about my friends, that are real. And i love to see this qualities also in Dirk. He's so special in that way. And in many others *gg*
So glad you see that, too!! *hugs*

See, that's the WM-stadiums. And my hometown is the blue point. I'm in the middle of nowhere. Really.
The tickets went on sale in January via internet, but there was no chance. We tried it seven times... :(

Agreed. The best athletes have humility and goodness in them. He has all of these qualities and more. I want him to get the NBA Championship one day, but people can win the championship and not be champions. He's always been one. And you and I both know that. **hugs**

Wow, your hometown is right in the middle! I'm sorry it worked out like that for you all! Have you ever been to a live soccer game at any of those stadiums?

I really want to learn German. I wanted to learn German instead of French, but the year I was able to take a language, German wasn't being offered! I think I'm going to have to teach myself.

Date: 2006-06-21 06:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] robtengel.livejournal.com
Yeah, he's truely a champion. He doesn't need a MVP-title or whatever to proof that. They way he is on and off the court shows his true colours.

Yeah, my hometown Jena is in Thuringia, they call it the "green heart of Germany", because of all the wood here. It's a little "countrystyle", but like it pretty much!
Where are you from?
Not in those WM-stadiums, but i saw the Berlin stadium from the outside and was in Mönchengladbach a few years ago to watch a first german league soccer game against Nürnberg. That was a really impressive experience!

I wish i could help you with that. You can ask me whatever you want, maybe i can help you with some translation stuff. I'm sorry, that German wasn't offered in your school (?). Did many poeple learn it? I guess not, right?

Exactly. I couldn't agree with you more on your first sentence.

Ooh, the "green heart of Germany"; that appeals to my poetic sensibility! It sounds beautiful! I'm from Ashton, a very small town in Maryland. Its very rural and green and I like it that way; my family still lives there. Right now, I'm living in Virginia, in a small town where I went to graduate school. I'm close enough to DC to enjoy the city every once in a while but far away to get away from it when I want to!

Unfortunately, the German teacher at the school I attended left the school, which only left the French and Spanish teachers. It was disappointing, to be sure. It probably depends on the school system, but I know friends who went to schools where they learned German, Latin, even Russian! Thanks for the offer with the help. We'll see how I do when I try to pick it up this summer! =^)

Yeah, that's what i love about my hometown, too. It's small enough (about 100.000 people) to be in a green surrounding when you need it, but you have all advantages of a big city. Big cinemas, supermartkets open till 8pm (during the Wm even till 10pm!), some clubs. It's really okay here.

Okay, here is a german sentence you definitly need to know: Dirk ist süß!!! *ggg*

From: [identity profile] phoenixastraea.livejournal.com
It sounds like a wonderful town! We don't have that many clubs here; we still have to go to DC for that kind of action! =^)

I love your icon btw...Its so true!

Dirk is ...what? (Sexy, I'm guessing?)

Date: 2006-06-22 09:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] robtengel.livejournal.com
Meeeeeep, no, wrong... *lol*
Dirk ist süß means Dirk is sweet or cute.

He is sexy, yeah, but that's not the point i love about him...

Thank you about the icon. It really fits in the moment!

Ah yes, he is sweet. I like that.

Each day we should have a new word in german about what he is...A post of "Dirk is/ist..." and we get to complete the phrase!

WHOA WHOA WHOA. I've read your posts about this guy and I was like, "Yeah, he's a good-lookin' dude, but too lanky for me." But now...zomg. FENCING. OH MY LORD. LANKY? MORE LIKE WANKY!!!! Holy shit! Why do swords automatically make someone HOT!?!?!?!?!

And also, stocky, barbaric sabrists are hot too. ;D

And yay for saxamaphone. WOODWINDS REPREZENNNNT. \mm/

HAHA, Lanky to Wanky! I love it!! Glad you're enjoying the hotness! I know I am...;^)

Oh trust me; fencers have a high hotness quotient! Its really strange...but swords do add a hotness factor!

Woodwinds represent! Saxamaphones and Flutamatoots!

Wow, this guy really is the man!

Yeah, for real! He IS the man!

If he was a sabreist, I was going to die...but it makes sense that he'd be an epeeist. SUCH awesomeness.

I am Queen of Rudeness!

Heather,
I am so very sorry that I didn't let you know I wasn't going to make it yesterday. I kept trying to remind myself to call the number Kenny gave us over myspace to let you know, but I got caught up with my final exam for my week-intensive summer course. I really would've liked to come and see everyone, but I made my exam top priority. I hope you can forgive me for not letting you know. Usually I'm much better about that kind of thing.
